COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

Our Mission in the Community

At Firefly Meadow Service Dogs Inc., our work extends far beyond training dogs—we are committed to making a meaningful impact within the communities we serve.

Our community programs are designed to provide support, education, and connection while also giving our dogs invaluable real-world experience. Through these programs, our dogs develop the confidence, neutrality, and adaptability required for successful service careers.

SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Supporting Students Through Connection

Our school-based programs bring service dogs in training into educational environments to support students both emotionally and academically.

Dogs participate in structured classroom visits, helping to:

  • Reduce stress and anxiety

  • Improve focus and engagement

  • Encourage positive social interaction

  • Support emotional regulation

These visits also provide students with the opportunity to learn about service dogs, training, and responsible animal interaction.

READING DOG PROGRAM

Building Confidence Through Literacy

Our reading dog program creates a calm, supportive environment where children can practice reading aloud to a non-judgmental companion.

Reading to a dog helps:

  • Build reading confidence

  • Improve fluency and comprehension

  • Reduce performance anxiety

  • Foster a love for reading

This program is especially impactful for reluctant or struggling readers.

JUNIOR HANDLER PROGRAM

Inspiring the Next Generation

Our Junior Handler Program provides youth with hands-on experience working with service dogs in training.

Participants learn:

  • Basic training techniques

  • Dog handling and care

  • Responsibility and consistency

  • The role of service dogs in the community

This program builds confidence, leadership skills, and a deeper understanding of working dogs.

PROJECT C.L.A.S.S.

Canine Learning And Support in Schools

Purpose-Driven Support in Education

Project C.L.A.S.S. is a structured initiative focused on placing and working with service dogs in school environments.

This program is designed to:

  • Provide consistent emotional support for students

  • Assist in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment

  • Offer structured interactions that benefit both students and dogs

  • Prepare dogs for future roles as facility or service dogs

Project C.L.A.S.S. bridges the gap between training and real-world application while making a lasting impact in schools.

PROJECT C.O.U.R.A.G.E.

Canines Offering Understanding, Reassurance, And Gentle Encouragement

Supporting First Responders & Communities

Project C.O.U.R.A.G.E. integrates specially trained dogs into first responder and community support settings.

These dogs provide:

  • Emotional support during high-stress situations

  • Comfort to victims, witnesses, and community members

  • Support during interviews, crisis response, and public interactions

  • Opportunities for positive community engagement

This program strengthens the connection between first responders and the communities they serve while providing meaningful support where it is needed most.

WHY COMMUNITY PROGRAMS MATTER

Our community programs are a vital part of our training model. They allow our dogs to gain real-world experience in a variety of environments while making a direct, positive impact on people’s lives.

Through these programs, we are not only preparing exceptional service dogs—we are building stronger, more connected communities.
